Who can register? Anybody who is eight years old and older may register for the Musikwoche. Our participants range in age from eight to eighty-five and older! You should have an interest in music and either want to sing in the choir or play an instrument. We offer lectures for the following groups: Junior Orchestra: This group is for recorders for beginners (at least one year experience) and advanced as well as for musicians who have recently started with an instrument and have at least one year of experience. If you are not sure if you are ready to play in our Junior Orchestra, please ask your music teacher. S/he can contact us at any time. We also cater for: Ensembles in the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, percussion, (some of these instruments may not be taught individually, but in groups or the Big Band / brass etc.). If your instrument is not listed here, please contact us and we will see if and where we can place you. We do allow one piano player for the Big Band. Big Band: Due to less participants for the Concert Band and tight financial constraints we were unfortunately forced to merge the Concert Band and Jazz Band into one Big Band. This is in particular for musicians who do not get a chance to regularly play in an orchestra or who feel they may need just that little bit of more experience and expertise, before they feel comfortable in the Grand Orchestra. And of course, for those that just want to have a good time and take it easy… The Big Band allows for less difficult pieces and more popular music. It will also accommodate all saxophones. Grand Orchestra: We strive to accommodate as many musicians as possible in the Grand Orchestra. Choir: We are happy to present a well-mixed group and invite particularly all male singers to PLEASE join!! The choir master will present a good mix of music and thus all age groups will enjoy this experience. It is vital that you fill in ALL the required information, otherwise the form may not go through. Please note: Due to the very limited rehearsal time and the growing numbers of participants you need to apply for an exemption, if you are unable to start on Friday the 8th by 14:00. We will only consider exemptions to punctual arrival up to Saturday, the 9th by 14:30. Anything later than that will not be accepted. This year the Musikwoche will start on Friday, December 8. Please see us at the Namib High School, come and collect your name tag and starter pack (with all relevant information and a schedule for Friday and Saturday) between 9:00 and 12:00 in the morning in the main hall way at the entrance of the school. Please make sure that you DO pick up your tag, as nobody is allowed on the premises after 12:00 without a nametag! Should you have an exemption for Friday morning, you may pick up your nametag on Saturday morning at the Musikwoche office between 8:30 and 9:00 or 10:30 – 11:00. One of our stage crew will escort you to the office, as nobody is allowed on the premises without a nametag. Participants may be allowed to join a maximum of two groups, but the last decision will be made by the respective lecturers and not all group combinations may be possible. Placement decisions are based on several factors, depending on group sizes, instrument requirements by groups etc. Please also know that Namibian musicians will be given preference! If one more flute is needed for the Grand Orchestra and two participants want the place, preference will be given to the Namibian musician in accordance with our trust objects.
