Oldies but Goldies

Oldies but Goldies – Big Band Concert in favour of the Swakopmunder Musikwoche 50th Jubilee

On the occasion of the 50th jubilee of the Swakopmunder Musikwoche we are especially happy about the support of the “Music Friends Zornheim”, a Big Band from Germany. They were founded in 1972 as a marching band, playing in particular at the German carnival. For many years now they have participated as musical accompaniment of the famous “Mainzer Kleppergarde”, a carnival company responsible for the participation of children and youngsters in the German carnival.

The brass band of the Music Friends Zornheim is known far beyond the borders of their town, they have a name in Germany and are even known outside of Germany, having played concerts in France and doing two concert tours to the United States of America.

This year they chose to do their concert tour in Namibia. Between the 27th of July and the 12th of August a musical group of in total 47 people (including family and friends) will do a concert safari and discover the beauty of Namibia. Additionally they will give a few concerts in aid of social projects. This was made possible through the support of DSAR and Air Namibia as well as many sponsors in Zornheim and region. And it is due to these sponsors that the band is able to pass all concert proceeds on to projects in Namibia.

Supporting the Swakopmunder Musikwoche is almost self-evident – especially in this big jubilee year. The Musikwoche of course will use these proceeds to support even more young (and not-so-young) Namibians, so that they are able to afford travel, accommodation and registration costs to participate in master classes from excellent international and Namibian lecturers for ten days.

The Music Friends Zornheim will have a concert in Swakopmund on the 1st of August. It will take place at the Bank Windhoek NPS Kulturaula, starting at 19h00. Enjoy International oldies such as Monty Pythons “„Always look on the bright side of life“, “Y.M.C.A” by Village People and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond. Of course there will also be famous German evergreens such as “Ich war noch niemals in New York” by Udo Jürgens, “Er gehört zu mir” by Marianne Rosenberg or „Michaela” by Bata Illic, to name but a few of a swinging program, that will of course also present some brass band hits and marches! Enjoy a wonderful evening, where we will all get warm, because our hands just start to clap along. At the same time you will be supporting a great cause, and because of your support the Swakopmunder Musikwoche will be able to present you with outstanding concerts again in December.

Get your tickets at “The Holiday Shop” in the Hewepa Arcade next to the Brauhaus at N$ 80.- or on the 1st of August at the box office – if any tickets are left then. We look forward to your visit and we count on your support!
