What a Perfect Evening!

On Saturday evening the Musikfreunde Zornheim gave a fabulous concert at the NPS Kulturaula. A great mix of German “schlager2 and international evergreens had many in the audience rock their feet and sway their heads and shoulders with the rhythm, be it a Udo Jürgens medley, Y.M.C.A. or “Always look at the bright side of life” – everyone was swinging in the mood.
The lay musicians played like pros and the joy and fun of making music became evident again and again, be it with the swaying of the trombones, the trill of the piccolo flute or the clarinets that thanks to the expertise of conductor Sascha Kordel were not “covered” by the brass.
After the last piece the audience jumped off their seats and the band was not allowed to leave without three encores. Closing with a special highlight of “Amazing Grace” with amazing trumpet soli, the audience was reluctant to go home.

The Jubilee Year – 2015 A Lot Is Happening!

As a majority of participants voted for a new logo last year, we are very proudly presenting the Swakopmunder Musikwoche logo! Our heartfelt thank you goes to Sandy le Roux, who designed it – and she sponsored not only the design, but also our new poster!!!

As you can see, we have also redone our website – we felt it was a proper birthday present to the Musikwoche.

But the Jubilee Year has more in stall for you. On the 1st of August the Musikfreunde Zornheim give a concert in Swakopmund, and all proceeds from it are directly sponsored to the Musikwoche! Please support us by showing up for a fantastic evening.

And this brings us to those that make the Swakopmunder Musikwoche possible every year – our sponsors! Bank Windhoek has made us a FANTSTIC birthday present and presented us with a cheque of N$ 200,000.- ! Yes, you read correctly – two hundred thousand Namibian dollars! We are also very proud to have the support of the Namibian Government again, the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture is not only sponsoring all Namibian lecturers, but will again support many Namibians, who otherwise would not be able to join the Musikwoche. The Metje & Ziegler Group remains one of our biggest sponsors, enabling us to support Namibian music groups and thus making their participation possible. Mr Manfred Brand is by far our biggest private supporter and to all of our sponsors, particularly to all the hotels supporting us every year we say THANK YOU! Please take a moment to look at all the supporters we have by clicking on our sponsor button within our menu.

Oldies but Goldies

Oldies but Goldies – Big Band Concert in favour of the Swakopmunder Musikwoche 50th Jubilee

On the occasion of the 50th jubilee of the Swakopmunder Musikwoche we are especially happy about the support of the “Music Friends Zornheim”, a Big Band from Germany. They were founded in 1972 as a marching band, playing in particular at the German carnival. For many years now they have participated as musical accompaniment of the famous “Mainzer Kleppergarde”, a carnival company responsible for the participation of children and youngsters in the German carnival.

The brass band of the Music Friends Zornheim is known far beyond the borders of their town, they have a name in Germany and are even known outside of Germany, having played concerts in France and doing two concert tours to the United States of America.

This year they chose to do their concert tour in Namibia. Between the 27th of July and the 12th of August a musical group of in total 47 people (including family and friends) will do a concert safari and discover the beauty of Namibia. Additionally they will give a few concerts in aid of social projects. This was made possible through the support of DSAR and Air Namibia as well as many sponsors in Zornheim and region. And it is due to these sponsors that the band is able to pass all concert proceeds on to projects in Namibia.

The Jubilee Year has started!
